FUNdamentals

Exploring the Peoria Riverfront Museum Permanent Collection

When examining quilts and minerals together, one can find fascinating similarities between two fundamentals of art: color and composition. Throughout time these foundational elements have been investigated by curious minds to develop a better understanding of the world and document the human experience.

Think more about these objects through the following questions:

  • Why is it called a “crazy” quilt?
  • What story do you think this quilt is telling? Is it a happy story?
  • How many colors are in the quilt?
  • How many shapes do you find?
  • What is something else found in nature that could be paired up to pieces of the quilt? Feathers, leaves, etc.
  • What would your Crazy Quilt look like and what story would it tell?
